The title screen describes this as an SRPG, but although you can form squads and have multiple independent characters, it's really more like a standard JRPG for quite a bit… it's only well into the game you get to have multiple squads, and engage in more strategic combat. The real hazard is the control scheme, it's all mouse-based, but all the tiles are two-part, and you can't talk or interact if you're misaligned... and the mouse movement frequently wants to move you only in whole tiles.
